As I settled on the four compositions for 'Under Piano Skies', I wanted to explore further an 'impressionistic' effect I experimented with previously: similar harmonic devices and melodic fragments often playing at counterpoint with each other, using silence and sustain pedal to frame these ideas together.
The resulting pieces highlight the relationship between fine art and music with a reference to paint colour names and subject matter, between abstract impressions and real life emotions co-existing in our lives, between what we see and our impressions, interpretations unique to our senses.
These 'Piano Paintings' allow me to state without overstating, to propose ideas without dictating and to engage the listener's ear should they wish to use their imagination to find what they want in my music.
